The All-New Mazda CX-6e is Coming Soon to Nunns of Grimsby
The wait is almost over. The all-new Mazda CX-6e is coming soon to Nunns of Grimsby and is due to arrive in UK showrooms later this year. As Mazda's first fully electric mid-size SUV, it brings electric power to the CX range while retaining the responsive, engaging drive Mazda owners enjoy, along with a range of up to 300 miles and plenty of useful technology.
Design and Style
The all-new CX-6e applies Mazda's Kodo - Soul of Motion design philosophy to a fully electric SUV. Because an electric car does not need a conventional engine grille, Mazda has given it an illuminated Signature Lighting panel instead. It lights up as you approach and can also show the vehicle's charging status. Slim LED headlights with dusk sensing and high beam control sit alongside Signature LED daytime running lights, while LED tail lights and a gloss black rear roof spoiler complete the look.
Although it shares its underpinnings with the Mazda6e saloon, the CX-6e has been designed with the taller stance and proportions of an SUV. It gives drivers who like the practicality of the CX-5 an all-electric alternative with a character of its own.
Power Range and Technology
The CX-6e uses a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 258PS (190kW) and 290Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an automatic transmission. It reaches 62mph from rest in 7.9 seconds on the standard 19-inch alloy wheels, or 8.1 seconds with the optional 21-inch wheels, and has a top speed of 115mph.
Range is up to 300 miles on the WLTP combined cycle and up to 379 miles in urban driving. Using a DC charger capable of up to 200kW, the battery can be charged from 10 to 80% in around 24 minutes, or from 30 to 80% in as little as 15 minutes. For home and public AC charging, a Type 2 cable is supplied.
At 4.85 metres long, 1.94 metres wide and 1.62 metres tall, the CX-6e offers plenty of space for passengers in both rows. The boot provides 363 litres of space up to the belt line, increasing to 1,434 litres when the rear seats are folded. A storage compartment beneath the bonnet gives you a practical place to keep charging cables, complete with a false floor and drain plug. One point to bear in mind is that the CX-6e is not rated for any additional roof load, so it cannot be fitted with roof-mounted accessories.
Inside, the 26.45-inch colour touchscreen brings navigation, an EV route planner, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto together in one place. A head-up display projects key information onto the windscreen, while voice control lets you adjust the windows, cabin temperature and route guidance by saying "Hey Mazda". Gesture control can also be used to change a song or adjust the volume.
The CX-6e also includes a choice of Vehicle Modes for specific situations, including Car Wash, Pet Comfort, Rest and Relax. Driver assistance features include Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Emergency Lane-Keeping, a 360-degree View Monitor with See-Through-View, and Traffic Sign Recognition with intelligent speed assist.
Available Trims
The all-new Mazda CX-6e will be available in two UK grades: Takumi, priced from £42,990 on the road, and Takumi Plus, from £45,350. That keeps the range straightforward, with both versions offering a strong standard specification.
Takumi includes a panoramic glass roof with an electric sunshade, the 26.45-inch touchscreen, a heat pump, a powered tailgate, smart keyless entry, the 360-degree View Monitor with See-Through-View, Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go, and the head-up display. Passengers in the rear also have a touchscreen for controlling the temperature, front passenger seat position and electric sunblind. The specification is completed by 19-inch Black Machined Aerodynamic alloy wheels, heated and ventilated front seats in Black Maztex, a heated Maztex-wrapped steering wheel and ambient interior lighting with 256 colour choices.
Takumi Plus adds 21-inch Black Machined alloy wheels, two-tone Amethyst and White Maztex seat trim, and heated and ventilated seats in the front and outer rear positions. It also adds a translucent light bar across the dashboard, a dual-tone Amethyst and Black Maztex steering wheel, digital door mirrors and a frameless digital rear-view mirror using a camera mounted in the tailgate.
