Mazda MX-5 RF in Grimsby, Lincolnshire
The Mazda MX-5 RF delivers legendary rear-wheel drive agility and performance with a refined hardtop roof. The powered roof retracts in 13 seconds flat for open-top motoring, with soundproofing for refinement while pootling around. You’ll form a dynamic bond with the intuitive handling and 1.5 132ps or 2.0 184ps Skyactiv-G engines, which are perfectly in tune to keep you on the edge of your seat. 2.0 184ps versions also have several mechanical upgrades, including a limited slip differential and Bilstein dampers. The result is an intuitive driving experience that never grows old.
Choose from Prime-Line (1.5 engine only), and Exclusive-Line, and Homura trims. All versions have wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 8” multimedia display, heated front seats, and cruise control. Exclusive-Line adds black perforated leather upholstery, a Bose sound system, Lane Departure Warning System, Traffic Sign Recognition, smart keyless entry, and Adaptive Front lighting System. The Homura model (184ps engine only) has a two tone roof, 17” BBS alloys, and Nappa leather seats.
The MX-5 RF has a uniquely sleek silhouette, with the hardtop roof creating an arched profile that swoops downwards. It has a sense of oneness with the driver, and that’s before you get inside the intuitive, luxurious cockpit.
The MX-5 RF offers you the opportunity to prioritise weight and efficiency with a 1.5 engine, or outright performance with a 2.0 engine. Both are amazingly agile, with the 1.5 being nimbler, and the 2.0 being faster overall with a 0-62mph time of 6.8secs.
The 127-litre boot is good for a few shopping and carry bags, and there’s a rear centre lockable box inside the cabin for small valuables. Exclusive-Line models have smart keyless entry and Smart City Brake Support to prevent accidents.
Living with it
The MX5-RF’s hardtop roof increases refinement at speed, making it a comfortable cruiser (it also has cruise control for soaking up miles). Navigation makes weekend getaways easy, or you can use maps with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
